ELECTROBUS BY IKARUS - FROM TRADITIONAL BRAND TO INDUSTRYLEADER

In the fourth episode of the sixth season of BUS2Talk, Zoltán Sipos, CEO of Ikarus, provides insights into the history of the long-established company, which was an important bus manufacturer in Eastern Europe in the late 1980s and early 1990s, producing 12,000 buses a year. Since 2021, Ikarus has repositioned itself with a clear focus on electric buses and now exports these to Germany, Poland, Romania and Greece.

"Public transport is like a city's business card," says Zoltán Sipos. In the BUS2Talk podcast studio at InnoTrans 2024, he talks about challenges in Hungary with regard to financial resources and the political situation. He discusses sustainable transport solutions and innovations in bus technology, such as the development of driver assistance systems and the integration of cyber security. In conversation with Kerstin Kube-Erkens and Don Dahlmann, he points out the lack of adequate energy infrastructure in many regions and explains how Ikarus can support its customers by providing energy storage containers with solar cells in areas where the charging infrastructure is inadequate.

Zoltán Sipos also reveals how he envisages public transport in the future and why he believes it is important to remain flexible and open with regard to different drive technologies.
