Into The Future: New Ideas for Coach Tours
In many respects buses represent an ideal form of modern and sustainable travel. The German TÜV and Federal Environmental Agency rate them highly, both in terms of safety and sustainability.
On 27 and 28 April 2022 on the Berlin Exhibition Grounds, representatives of the tourism and bus industry will discuss the prospects for new coach tour concepts and the direction that customer interest is taking.
Together with the German Bus and Coach Operators Association (bdo), Messe Berlin has organised a fascinating program of keynotes, impulses and panels at the event in conjunction with manufacturers, service providers and policy makers. The International Association of B2B Wholesalers (VPR) will also contribute to the stage program during the Fresh Travel Panel and a cooperation with the Online Travel Association (Verband Internet Reisevertrieb e.V.- V.I.R.) will round things off.
Bundestag members at BUS2BUS
This has also attracted the attention of policymakers. At BUS2BUS, the Tourism Commission of the German Bundestag will be attending a bus Trade Show for the first time. On 27 April, at a discussion chaired by Jana Schimke, the 19 members of the commission will debate the outlook for the coach tour industry together with trade visitors, where under the heading FRESH TRAVEL the focus will be on new trends, business spheres and services.
On the first day of BUS2BUS at the FUTURE FORUM the topic will be how innovative interiors, vehicle concepts and designs can attract new customers to the coach tour market and lead to a change in the industry’s image. “The journey is the reward and it begins on a coach“ – this aspect will be the main topic of the discussions. In that context there will also be a focus on sustainability and health. Here too, the needs of individual audiences have changed.
On 28 April 2022, part two of FRESH TRAVEL, which is co-organised with the VPR, will examine the impact of digitalisation on the coach tour industry. It starts with an inspiration, continues with personalising one’s trip and ends with giving ratings – a travel experience begins with booking and is part of an all-round package, not just for the younger generation.
Florian Gärtner, Managing Director of the International Association of B2B Wholesalers (VPR): “The increasingly individual needs of the audiences in question, their growing familiarity with online services and the constantly changing tourism market mean that the coach tour industry must adapt accordingly. Socially responsible and sustainable travel is a mega trend which the coach tour industry must satisfy and for which it is perfectly equipped.“
Manufacturers and service providers at the BUS2BUS
At the Trade Show, manufacturers with their buses will respond to the latest tourism trends and be on hand to answer visitors’ questions. On display will be the NEOPLAN Cityliner Platin, a special 2022 edition by MAN Truck & Bus Deutschland. This brand new coach which seats up to 63 passengers received the Coach of the Year 2022 award.
In addition, numerous suppliers will be exhibiting at the Trade Show, including the seating manufacturer Franz Kiel, the IT service provider ICTS, which equips passenger seats with Wi-Fi and TV connections, as well as Ratio Software, which markets individual software solutions for bus companies, tour operators and package tour companies. TimeRide offers a very special travel experience on its city tours. With the help of portable VR goggles travellers can see what cities looked like in bygone times and now. Visitors to BUS2BUS can experience this directly at the Trade Show.
Startups are also providing a fresh impetus. Thus, Twiliner from Zürich has developed a new bus concept with a reclining seat that converts into a bed. The aim is to make long-distance coach travel appealing to younger, environmentally aware customers. EBA, a startup, is introducing its Busfinder booking platform which customers can use to compare prices and reserve tickets.
Numerous trade associations will be represented on their own stands, including the German Bus and Coach Operators Association (bdo), the co-organisers of BUS2BUS, and the VPR, and will be available to talk with members and trade visitors. The Federal Ministry for
Digital and Transport will also be represented on its own stand.
BUS2BUS, an innovative business platform for the bus and supplier industry in Germany that focuses exclusively on the bus industry, has been held since 2017. BUS2BUS 2019 was attended by more than 1,700 trade visitors from 34 countries and 103 exhibiting companies from 13 countries. Preparations for BUS2BUS 2022 indicate that the Trade Show will be even bigger, with more buses and test drive opportunities than ever before. With the combination of a Trade Show, an informative stage program of Future Forum and bdo Congress tracks, as well as workshops and presentations (BUS2Specials), it will cover the entire range of future technologies and showcase the latest trends and innovations in the bus industry. The next BUS2BUS will take place from 27 to 28 April 2022 in Berlin.
