Industry praises BUS2BUS concept

BUS2BUS, which was announced just over a month ago, is due to launch in April 2017 in Berlin. The unique concept of this exclusive trade show and congress event has been praised by the industry.

According to Kerstin Kube-Erkens, the main organiser of the event: “Following the announcement to launch BUS2BUS we received extremely positive feedback from the bus industry, and naturally we are delighted. It shows the importance of such an event. Apart from BUS2BUS there is no other trade fair and congress in Germany devoted exclusively to buses. To date in Germany, the main European market, the bus industry and its suppliers have not yet had a dedicated business platform. In that sense what we are offering the market is unique. In our opinion there is no harm in there being competition. Instead it allows market players to choose the event best suited to their needs. The existing events with their focus on bus travel have little in common with the concept of BUS2BUS.“

BUS2BUS focuses on three areas: a marketplace, the bdo Congress (Bundesverband Deutscher Omnibusunternehmer e.V.) and the Future Forum. The marketplace will reflect important trends concerning components, accessories, maintenance, services, infrastructure, ease of use, design, digital services and innovative travel services. At the bdo Congress discussions will centre on the latest economic and political issues as well as strategies and recommendations for developing public transport, tourism by bus and coach travel. The Future Forum will act as the event linking the marketplace and bdo Congress. ’Sustainable mobility’, ’Autonomous vehicle concepts’ and ’Innovative services’ will be the topics setting the tone for the industry.

Representatives from both inside and outside the industry see this as an opportunity to present their latest solutions and the issues they raise at BUS2BUS, in order to jointly and emphatically develop the bus industry’s innovative capabilities for the future.

Reactions to the BUS2BUS announcement:

André Schwämmlein, founder and managing director of FlixBus:
“FlixBus recognised early on that low fares, a fresh design and new services make coach travel very attractive to young consumers. We are constantly aiming to make our services more comfortable and expand connectivity and welcome an exchange with partners from the industry and technology companies. We will make use of BUS2BUS for discussions – In our view Berlin is the ideal venue.“

Dr. Tom Kirschbaum, founder and managing director of ally:
“We welcome the idea to hold BUS2BUS as a modern and dedicated business platform for the bus industry and consider it a big opportunity as a future market for mobility in the digital age. As a startup from Berlin, via the ’ally public transport app’ we supply people in major cities with the smartphone information they need for their daily urban trips. Our ’allygatorshuttle’ offers cities and transport service operators an innovative on-demand ride-sharing service that gets people with similar routes quickly and reliably to their destination with a minimum environmental impact. As the common link at BUS2BUS the Future Forum promises to address the interests of the industry, business owners and customers regardless of where they are from. The outlook is good for a platform that promotes technological innovation for transport companies offering digital services in order to give users a first-hand look at new trends. Thus the bus industry will come face to face with the future which will be there for all to see. As a dynamic mega city with a vibrant startup landscape Berlin needs forward-looking events such as these.“

Karsten Schulze, managing director of
“As a German company and pioneer of coach travel originally from Berlin we are delighted that the city is also hosting a trade fair for this industry. It is not just the coach travel market. The pace of technological development is growing rapidly too. Be it internet connectivity or online marketing, there is hardly any area of business that can function without IT. There will certainly be enough topics. We already look forward to exchanging views with partners and exhibitors at BUS2BUS.“

Governing Mayor of Berlin Michael Müller:
“The city is looking forward to the debut of the industry event BUS2BUS in April 2017. The issue of public transport is at the top of our agenda. Mobility and the relevant technology in a wide range of innovative forms are central to the activities of many research institutions and businesses in Berlin. As a major international city the issue of mobility has a pivotal role – both in urban transport, nationally and across borders. Bus and coach travel will become evermore important. With the opening up of the coach travel market the industry has received a boost. Berlin has already become a hub among European coach travel destinations, and we aim to expand its role still further. That is why we are investing 14 million euros in rebuilding the city’s main bus station (Zentraler Omnibusbahnhof) which will double its capacity from 200,000 to 400,000 arrivals and departures per year. We want to ensure visitors to the trade fair can see for themselves how well coach travel can work in the 21st century. Berlin and BUS2BUS – the perfect combination!“
